Alliston shrugs off penalties, upends Stayner, 3-1Stayner Memorial Arena Sat, Mar 01, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Stayner Siskins failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Alliston Hornets shook off a number of penalties to win, 3-1. The win by Alliston clinched the best of seven series at 4-0. The Hornets were led by David Leblanc, who registered one goal. Leblanc scored on the power play 9:27 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Alliston. Alliston earned a power play opportunity when Randy Jeffery was put in the box for tripping. Alex Daley picked up the assist. The Hornets' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Stayner power plays. Others who scored for Alliston included Bobby Sloan and Nic Archibald, who each put in one. More assists for Alliston came via Mark ODonnell, who had one and Dakota Brooks, who had two. Stayner was led by Quinton Bruce, who scored the team's only goal. Bruce scored 7:39 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kyle Lafreniere assisted on the tally. Connor Ryckman recorded 22 saves for Alliston. The Hornets incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Taylor Trace took the loss and made 20 saves before being replaced by Aaron Taylor who made zero saves. The Siskins ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. Stayner ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Taylor Trace was ejected from the game.
