Stayner's comeback falls short, Alliston wins 6-4

The Stayner Siskins almost clawed their way back from a five-goal deficit, but the Alliston Hornets managed to pull out a 6-4 win in the end.

Alliston led by five goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Hornets' Bobby Sloan's scored on the power play at 17:23 in the first period to put Alliston up 5-0.

The win gave the Hornets a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Alliston got the win with help from a great game by Mark ODonnell, who had two goals and one assist. ODonnell scored the first of his two goals at 4:33 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Alliston. Tanner Dockerty picked up the assist. ODonnell's next tally made the score 6-4 Alliston with 8:02 left in the third period. A kneeing penalty on Brendan Skidmore had put the Hornets on the power play. Dakota Brooks provided the assist.

Alliston excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Alliston additionally got points from Jamie Bennett, who also finished with one goal and one assist, David Leblanc, who also had one goal and three assists, and Brooks, who also racked up one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. More assists for Alliston came via William Brandon, Jacob Tuck, and Nic Archibald, who contributed one a piece.

Stayner's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

The Siskins were led by Dakota Hynes, who registered two goals. Hynes scored the first of his two goals at 18:14 into the first period to make the score 5-1 Alliston. Randy Jeffery assisted on the tally. Hynes' next tally made the score 5-3 Alliston with 12:52 left in the third period. Ricky Darrell picked up the assist. Stayner also had goals scored by Cooper Martin and Ryan Hyndman, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Stayner were Jackson Clarke, who had two and Jesse Anderson and Kyle Lafreniere, who each chipped in one.

Tyler Brindle rejected 17 shots on goal for the Hornets. Alliston incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Hornets ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mike Barosso was ejected from the game. Stayner's Allan Menary APM stopped 20 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Siskins incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
