Luca's big game bests Soo Firehawks in 8-0 Traverse City Hounds win

Traverse City Hounds had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-0 win over Soo Firehawks.

Traverse City Hounds evened the best of three series at 1-1 and forced a deciding game three.

Traverse City Hounds got the win behind a great game by Scott Luca, who had two goals and two assists. Luca scored the first of his two goals at 11:35 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Traverse City Hounds. Jacob Gillis assisted on the tally. Luca's next tally made the score 4-0 Traverse City Hounds with six seconds left in the second period. Traverse City Hounds had gotten the advantage when Soo Firehawks' Tyler Jones was sent off for holding. Gillis picked up the assist.

Soo Firehawks' power play was ineffective against Traverse City Hounds' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Traverse City Hounds' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Soo Firehawks power plays. Traverse City Hounds forced Soo Firehawks goalie Anthony Benvenuti to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The defensemen of Traverse City Hounds were also effective in Soo Firehawks' zone, and came away with two goals.

Traverse City Hounds also got a goal from Patrick Rogowski as well. More assists for Traverse City Hounds came via Premysl Synek, who had three and Kevin Hansen, Alexander Grizzel, Grant McCormack, and Matthew Passino, who contributed one each.

David Krejcik rejected 23 shots on goal for Traverse City Hounds. Traverse City Hounds totaled 54 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and two majors and went 2-for-10 on the power play. Soo Firehawks' Benvenuti stopped 30 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Soo Firehawks ended with 70 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and two majors.
