Soo Firehawks beats Traverse City Hounds 3-2 after comeback scare

Soo Firehawks survived a determined comeback attempt by Traverse City Hounds on the way to a 3-2 win.

Soo Firehawks took a 3-1 lead during the third period, only to have Traverse City Hounds storm back on a Cam Fisher goal 11:00 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Traverse City Hounds faces elimination next time out.

Soo Firehawks was led by Nicholas Murphy, who had one goal. Murphy scored on the power play 1:29 into the third period to make the score Soo Firehawks. Soo Firehawks had gained a power play chance when Kenneth Simmons Jr was whistled for high sticking. Kevin Killips provided the assist.

Soo Firehawks additionally got points from Ryan Marshall, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Soo Firehawks also got a goal from Justin Garton as well. Other players who recorded assists for Soo Firehawks were Nick Papandrea, who had one and Anthony Laaksonen, who had two.

Traverse City Hounds forced Soo Firehawks goalie Anthony Benvenuti to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

Scott Luca also scored for Traverse City Hounds. In addition, Traverse City Hounds received assists from Jacob Gillis, Josh Smith, and Alexander Grizzel, who each chipped in one.

Benvenuti rejected 43 shots on goal for Soo Firehawks. Soo Firehawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. David Krejcik recorded 22 saves for Traverse City Hounds. Traverse City Hounds incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors.
