Huge game by Cruse boosts Detroit Fighting Irish over Soo Firehawks, 5-2

Detroit Fighting Irish's Michael Cruse had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 5-2 win over Soo Firehawks.

Cruse scored at 17:37 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 2:33 into the second to make the score 2-1 Detroit Fighting Irish.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Soo Firehawks faces elimination next time out.

Detroit Fighting Irish excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Soo Firehawks was unable to stop Detroit Fighting Irish from sending pucks towards the net, and Detroit Fighting Irish eventually piled up 45 shots on goal. Detroit Fighting Irish's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Detroit Fighting Irish additionally got points from Aaron Robinson, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Anthony Wojciechowski, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Ken Winter also scored for Detroit Fighting Irish. More assists for Detroit Fighting Irish came via Ryan Brown, Ryan Krolikowski, Ryan Santo, Joshua Arnold, James Smith, and Jacob Hernandez, who each chipped in one.

Soo Firehawks was helped by Nicholas Murphy, who registered one goal. Murphy scored 4:35 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Detroit Fighting Irish. Kevin Killips provided the assist. Soo Firehawks also got a goal from Justin Garton as well. In addition, Soo Firehawks received assists from Andrew Holder, Cody Anderson, and Anthony Laaksonen, who contributed one each.

John Slavik rejected 25 shots on goal for Detroit Fighting Irish. Detroit Fighting Irish incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Soo Firehawks' Anthony Benvenuti stopped 40 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Soo Firehawks ended with 33 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major. For Soo Firehawks, Holder was ejected from the game.
