Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) beats Colorado Thunderbirds (MM) 2-1 after comeback scare

Colorado Thunderbirds (MM) tried to dig itself out of a two-goal hole, but Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) held on for a 2-1 victory.

Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) took a 2-0 lead during the third period, only to have Colorado Thunderbirds (MM) storm back on a Nicholas Kukuris goal 16:27 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) was led by Matt Littler, who registered one goal and one assist. Littler scored 6:09 into the third period to make the score Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM). Colin Quinn picked up the assist.

Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Colorado Thunderbirds (MM) to score on any of its four power plays. Colorado Thunderbirds (MM) was unable to stop Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) from sending pucks towards the net, and Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM)'s penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) finished with 16 penalty minutes.

Brandon Tucker also scored for Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM). In addition, Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) received assists from Clay Cross, who had one.

Colorado Thunderbirds (MM)'s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (MM) power plays. Colorado Thunderbirds (MM) could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Other players who recorded assists for Colorado Thunderbirds (MM) were Sam Rankin and John Greer, who each chipped in one.
