Worrad nets hat trick, leads xLondon to 8-3 win over xChatham

Drew Worrad lifted the xLondon Nationals to an 8-3 victory with a hat trick against the xChatham Maroons.

Worrad's first goal came 13:36 into the first period. He then added goals at 6:56 into the second and at 8:02 into the third.

xChatham's power play was ineffective against xLondon's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Nationals forced the Maroons' netminders to work all game long, taking 38 shots and forcing 30 saves. Jacob Keogh made 22 stops and Brendan Johnston made eight. xLondon surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Nationals average 3.8 goals per contest.

xLondon additionally got points from Paul Hopkins, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Matt Wildman, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Nik Passero, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for xLondon included Ryan Wells and Jeff Bauer, who scored one goal each. In addition, xLondon received assists from Keaton Ratcliffe, who had two, Tristen Elie, who had three, and Matt Fuller, Mike Whaley, Ryan Tuffin, and Scott Lombardi, who each chipped in one.

xChatham forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game the Maroons had been spending in the box. xChatham's offense operated below it season average. The Maroons average 5.1 goals per game. xChatham's offense rang up 32 shots on xLondon's net.

The Maroons were led by Adam Arseneault, who racked up one goal and two assists. Arseneault scored on the power play 12:54 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A slashing penalty on Austin Kemp had put xChatham on the power play. Steven Szekesy assisted on the tally. xChatham also got points from Szekesy, who also tallied one goal and one assist. xChatham also got a goal from Kyle Brothers as well. Other players who recorded assists for xChatham were Nate Pietens, who had one and Michael Verboom, who had two.

Jacob Riley rejected 29 shots on goal for the Nationals. xLondon totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. The Nationals ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Chris Maton was ejected from the game. For the Maroons, Brayden Hopkins was ejected from the game.
