Alliston pulls away in second, rolls over Fergus, 9-3Centre Wellington Sportsplex Thu, Feb 13, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Alliston Hornets scored three goals in the second period to pull away from the Fergus Devils and clinch a 9-3 win. The win by Alliston clinched the best of seven series at 4-0. The Hornets got the win with help from a great game by Dakota Brooks, who had one goal and three assists. Brooks scored on the power play 11:08 into the third period to make the score 7-3 Alliston. Alliston had gained a power play chance when Griffin Heitshu was whistled for spearing. Jacob Tuck picked up the assist. Fergus fell victim to a deadly the Hornets power play, which ripped the Devils for four goals. Alliston forced Fergus goalie Parker Merkley to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots. The Hornets' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. Alliston also got points from Mark ODonnell, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Alliston included Bobby Sloan and Matt Hamilton, who scored two goals each and Jamie Bennett, William Brandon, and Tanner Dockerty, who each put in one. In addition, Alliston received assists from David Leblanc, who had two and Mike Barosso, Joe Cochrane, Sean Anderson, and Nic Archibald, who contributed one a piece. The Devils were helped by Mackenzie Cleveland, who grabbed one goal. Cleveland scored on the power play 11:26 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Fergus had gotten the advantage when Alliston's Alex Daley was sent off for tripping. Cody Gresswell provided the assist. Luke Reinhart also scored for Fergus. Other players who recorded assists for Fergus were Joshua Schafer, Ben Roelofson, James Murray, and Dustin Scheer, who each chipped in one. The Hornets' Tyler Brindle stopped 18 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Alliston incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Merkley rejected 39 shots on goal for the Devils. Fergus incurred 56 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Team's Reinhart, Dominic Wealthall, and Cleveland were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
