Alliston outlasts Fergus, 4-3Centre Wellington Sportsplex Fri, Feb 07, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Alliston Hornets and the Fergus Devils was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Alliston emerged with a 4-3 win. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Tanner Dockerty's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker. The win gave the Hornets a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Dockerty had two goals to lead Alliston to victory. The Hornets excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Fergus was unable to stop Alliston from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hornets eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. Alliston also got a goal from Jamie Bennett as well. In addition, Alliston received assists from Dakota Brooks, who had two and Zack Byblow, David Leblanc, and Connor Ryckman, who contributed one a piece. The Devils were helped by Ryan Lavrench, who finished with one goal. Lavrench scored 1:06 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Fergus. Joshua Schafer provided the assist. Fergus also had goals scored by James Murray and Mike Traves, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Fergus were Cody Gresswell, Dustin Scheer, and Mackenzie Cleveland, who each chipped in one. Alliston took out Tyler Brindle after he had made two saves and installed Ryckman in goal, where he finished with 23 saves and the win. The Hornets incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. For Alliston, Ben Skuce was ejected from the game. Fergus' Alex Elliott stopped 40 shots out of the 44 that he faced. The Devils ended with 27 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Team's Dominic Weathall and Cleveland were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
