Tavistock falls to New Hamburg in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The New Hamburg Firebirds' Brandon Yantzi scored 4:08 into overtime to beat the Tavistock Braves, 5-4 (OT).

The win by New Hamburg clinched the best of seven series at 4-2.

Although the Firebirds was up by as many as three goals in the third period, Tavistock kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Braves got to within 4-3 on a power play goal by Jordan Ritsma at 16:29 in the third period.

Yantzi had two goals to lead New Hamburg to victory.

Tavistock was unable to stop the Firebirds from sending pucks towards the net, and New Hamburg eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Firebirds was effective with a man advantage, and put in two goals while on the power play.

New Hamburg additionally got points from Kyle McDonald, who also finished with one goal and one assist. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Kyle Mohr and Carter Tracey, who scored one goal each. More assists for New Hamburg came via Andrew Boer, who had two and Jay Fried, Tyler Randerson, David Jennings, and Taylor Wood, who each chipped in one.

The Braves forced New Hamburg goalie Eric Peicheff to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Others who scored for Tavistock included Derek Cowing and Angus Rowland, who each put in one. In addition, Tavistock received assists from Jeremy Munro, Matthew Lupton, and Nick Quehl, who contributed one a piece.

The Firebirds' Peicheff stopped 33 shots out of the 37 that he faced. New Hamburg incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For the Firebirds, Brodie Muckler was ejected from the game. Trevor Bloch rejected 27 shots on goal for Tavistock. The Braves incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
