Huge game by Mohr boosts New Hamburg over Tavistock, 5-3

Kyle Mohr had two goals and two assists to lead the New Hamburg Firebirds to a 5-3 victory over the Tavistock Braves.

Mohr scored at 8:42 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and again while 8:31 into the third to make the score 4-2 New Hamburg.

The win gave New Hamburg a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Firebirds' penalty kill excelled, as New Hamburg gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

The Firebirds stifled Tavistock's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

New Hamburg also got points from Sean Kienapple, who also tallied one goal and two assists. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Anthony Osterling and Kyle McDonald, who each put in one. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Brandon Yantzi, who had two and Jay Fried and Carter Tracey, who contributed one a piece.

The Braves' offense rang up 35 shots on New Hamburg's net.

Tavistock was helped by Mackenzie Kalbfleisch, who finished with two goals. Kalbfleisch scored the first of his two goals at 7:25 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Tavistock. Angus Rowland AP provided the assist. Kalbfleisch's next tally made the score 4-3 New Hamburg with 12 seconds left in the third period. Jordan Ritsma assisted on the tally. Tavistock additionally got points from Sean Leslie, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Tavistock were Matthew Lupton, who had one.

Ryan Purcell made 32 saves for the Firebirds on 35 shots. New Hamburg incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Jason Miller rejected 24 shots on goal for the Braves. Tavistock incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
