Huntsville's comeback falls short, Fergus wins 3-1Canada Summit Centre Wed, Feb 05, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fergus Devils came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Huntsville Otters, but did just enough to escape with a 3-1 victory. Fergus led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Devils' Griffin Heitshu's scored at 19:48 in the third period to put Fergus up 4-1. The win by the Devils clinched the best of three series at 2-0. Fergus pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 20 penalty minutes. The Devils were paced by Ben Roelofson, who finished with one goal. Roelofson scored on the power play 7:22 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Fergus. Fergus earned a power play opportunity when Bryan Austin was put in the box for cross checking. Heitshu provided the assist. The Devils' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Huntsville power plays. Fergus forced Huntsville goalie Connor Christianson to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. Fergus also got points from Heitshu, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Fergus also got a goal from Robert Ebach as well. In addition, Fergus received assists from Joshua Machesney and Ryan Lavrench, who each chipped in one. The Otters were led by Jake McIntyre, who scored the team's only goal. McIntyre scored 6:35 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Fergus. Trayvon Henry picked up the assist. Alex Elliott recorded 24 saves for the Devils. Fergus registered one goal on 10 power play opportunities. Christianson rejected 42 shots on goal for Huntsville. The Otters incurred 44 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors.
