Schomberg holds on for 6-5 win against Caledon

The Schomberg Cougars survived a determined comeback attempt by the Caledon Golden Hawks on the way to a 6-5 win.

Schomberg made the score 6-4 on a goal by Justin Formenton at 13:38 in the third period, and Caledon got as close as 6-5 when Zack Worth scored 16:15 into the third period.

The win by the Cougars broke a deadlock and gave Schomberg a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Kiefer McIntosh was all over the ice for the Cougars, as he grabbed two goals in the win. McIntosh found the back of the net 15:57 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Caledon and again while 5:20 into the third to make the score 5-4 Schomberg.

Schomberg's offense rang up 58 shots on the Golden Hawks' net. The Cougars were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of 10 man advantages.

Schomberg also got points from Christian Muenz, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Formenton, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Nicholas Chaykowsky, who also registered one goal and one assist. Schomberg also got a goal from Declan Lampe as well. In addition, Schomberg received assists from Ryley Egerton, who had two and Arran Macdonald, JP Crescenzi, Colton Wood, and John Gage, who contributed one a piece.

Caledon forced Schomberg goalie Taylor Ewart to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.

The Golden Hawks were helped by Daniel Cafagna, who had one goal. Cafagna scored 18:47 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Caledon. Caledon additionally got points from Worth, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Caledon included Patrick Savella, Derek Czech, and Steven Klomp, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Caledon were Justin Lollini, who had one and Steve Zeppieri, who had two.

Ewart rejected 42 shots on goal for the Cougars. Schomberg incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Caledon's Eric Pitcher stopped 52 shots out of the 58 that he faced. The Golden Hawks incurred 50 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
