Huge game by Formenton boosts Schomberg over Caledon, 7-3

The Schomberg Cougars' Justin Formenton had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 7-3 win over the Caledon Golden Hawks.

Formenton's tallies came on the power play at 12:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Schomberg and on the power play 12:37 into the second to make the score 4-1 Schomberg.

With the win, Schomberg evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Caledon fell victim to a deadly the Cougars power play, which ripped the Golden Hawks for five goals.

Schomberg made Caledon's goaltenders to work without much rest, racking up 50 shots and forcing 43 saves. Chris Vellucci made 25 stops and Eric Pitcher made 18.

Schomberg additionally got points from Colton Wood, who also registered one goal and three assists and Blake Culley, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Schomberg included Kiefer McIntosh, Mitch Safaric, and John Gage, who scored one goal each. More assists for Schomberg came via Nicholas Chaykowsky, who had two and Joel Wright AP, Arran Macdonald, and Brandon Yorke, who contributed one a piece.

The Golden Hawks were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on 10 chances.

Caledon was led by Daniel Cafagna, who finished with one goal and one assist. Cafagna scored on the power play 11:15 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Schomberg. The Golden Hawks had gained a power play chance when Chris Wilson was whistled for interference. Brett Bloor picked up the assist. Caledon also had goals scored by Nicholas McNutt and Cody Forgione, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Caledon were Patrick Savella, who had one and Justin Lollini, who had two.

The Cougars' Taylor Ewart stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Schomberg incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Caledon incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors.
