Klomp lifts Caledon over Schomberg, 6-2

Steven Klomp was all over the ice for the Caledon Golden Hawks, as he tallied two goals in Caledon's 6-2 win over the Schomberg Cougars.

Klomp found the back of the net on the power play 4:44 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 11:50 into the third to make the score 4-2 Caledon.

The win gave the Golden Hawks a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Caledon also had goals scored by Derek Czech, Nicholas McNutt, Chris Smith, and Daniel Cafagna, who each put in one. In addition, Caledon received assists from Justin Lollini, Zack Worth, and Brett Bloor, who contributed one a piece and Patrick Savella and Cody Forgione, who each chipped in two.

Schomberg kept Caledon's goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris Vellucci made 41 saves on 43 shots.

The Cougars were helped by Justin Formenton, who tallied one goal. Formenton scored on the power play 9:10 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Schomberg had taken the advantage when the Golden Hawks' Randy Chen got sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. John Gage assisted on the tally. Kiefer McIntosh also scored for Schomberg. More assists for Schomberg came via JP Crescenzi and Nicholas Chaykowsky, who contributed one a piece.

Caledon incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Taylor Ewart recorded 24 saves for the Cougars. Schomberg incurred 64 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
