Stoody leads Wellesley over Norwich, 4-1

Alex Stoody had two goals and one assist to lead the Wellesley Applejacks to a 4-1 victory over the Norwich Merchants.

Stoody's tallies came at 17:23 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wellesley and 15:32 into the third to make the score 4-1 Wellesley.

With the win, Wellesley evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

Norwich was stymied by the Applejacks netminder Josh Heer, who stopped 47 shots during the victory. Heer certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.83 entering the contest.

Wellesley's penalty kill excelled, as the Applejacks gave up one goal despite allowing 10 power plays.

Wellesley also got points from Devon Wagner, who also grabbed one goal and three assists to lead the team in points and Brett MacDonald, who also registered one goal and two assists. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Justin Lebold, who had one.

The Merchants put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wellesley to score on any of its four power plays. Norwich forced the Applejacks goalie Heer to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots.

The Merchants were led by Kurtis Lavis, who scored the team's only goal. Lavis scored on the power play 9:16 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Wellesley. Norwich had gotten the advantage when Wellesley's Chris Beauchesne was sent off for slashing. Drake Morrell provided the assist.

The Applejacks incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Merchants' Zac Easveld stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Norwich incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
