Nichols leads Topeka over Sugar Land, 7-3

The Topeka Capitals' Connor Nichols had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 7-3 win over the Sugar Land Imperials.

Nichols' tallies came on the power play at 12:33 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Topeka and 15:00 into the second to make the score 4-2 Topeka.

Topeka's offense rang up 45 shots on Sugar Land's net. The Capitals found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Topeka averages 4.7 goals per game. The Capitals was effective with a man advantage, and put in two goals while on the power play. Topeka got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Topeka additionally got points from Tommy Malkmus, who also registered one goal and two assists, Hardijs Kupaks, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Benton Deanovich, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Topeka included John Crusinberry and Georgy Ostapchuk, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Kole Hudson, who had two and Joe Stoneburner, Nick Rizzo, Brandon Hawkins, and Jaydn Munnelly, who each chipped in one.

The Imperials were led by Matthew Winkle, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Winkle scored the first of his two goals at 9:46 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Topeka. Aksel Campbell provided the assist. Winkle's next tally made the score 2-2 with 19:46 left in the second period. Campbell picked up the assist. Sugar Land also got a goal from Dylan Edwards as well.

Mike McElroy recorded 12 saves for the Capitals. Topeka incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Matt Douglas made 38 saves for Sugar Land on 45 shots. The Imperials incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
