Campbellford blows out Port Hope, 6-1Warkworth Sun, Feb 02, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Campbellford Rebels were firing on all cylinders against the Port Hope Panthers, and when the final buzzer sounded Rebels emerged with a 6-1 win. Campbellford was led by goalie Cole Mahoney, who finished with 34 saves while allowing one goal. Mahoney certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.12 entering the contest. The Rebels' penalty kill excelled, as Campbellford gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays. The Rebels stifled Port Hope's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Campbellford forced the Panthers goalie Branson Schell to work between the pipes, taking 55 shots. The Rebels were helped by Jon Samis, who tallied one goal. Samis scored 7:53 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Campbellford. Campbellford also got points from Andrew Doxtator, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Campbellford included Ryan Crowley, who had two and Nick Ferguson and Mitchell Merry, who each put in one. In addition, Campbellford received assists from jeremy dorghty, who had one and Jordan Boutilier, who had three. Port Hope racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the Panthers had been spending in the box. Port Hope put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Campbellford to score on any of its 10 power plays. The Panthers' offense operated below they season average. Port Hope averages 3.6 goals per game. The Rebels were unable to stop the Panthers from sending pucks towards the net, and Port Hope eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. The Panthers were led by Mike Smith, who scored the team's only goal. Smith scored 17:31 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Campbellford. Mitch Buurkitt provided the assist. Campbellford incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Schell rejected 49 shots on goal for Port Hope. For the Panthers, Smith was ejected from the game.
