Picton outlasts Port Hope, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Picton Pirates escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Port Hope Panthers.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Griffin McCarty's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Picton got the win thanks to a great game by McCarty, who had two goals and one assist. McCarty scored the first of his two goals at 2:14 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Picton. Jack Davison provided the assist. McCarty's next tally made the score 3-2 Picton with 13:42 left in the third period. Steven Clarke picked up the assist.

Port Hope was unable to stop the Pirates from sending pucks towards the net, and Picton eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

Picton also got points from Kenny Murduff, who also had two goals and one assist. More assists for Picton came via Brandon Peever and Ryan Sizer, who each chipped in one.

The Panthers were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Port Hope surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Panthers were led by Dan Lagrois, who racked up one goal and one assist. Lagrois scored 1:03 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Brandon Durst assisted on the tally. Port Hope also got a goal from Jordan Gardner as well. In addition, Port Hope received assists from Tanner Bowditch and Chandler Gillespie, who contributed one a piece.

Andrew Pearson rejected 22 shots on goal for the Pirates. Picton totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. For the Pirates, Matt Whidden was ejected from the game. Branson Schell recorded 39 saves for Port Hope. The Panthers registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Port Hope ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gillespie was ejected from the game.
