Mt.Brydges' comeback falls short, Aylmer wins 6-4

The Aylmer Spitfires came close to giving away a four-goal lead to the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs, but did just enough to escape with a 6-4 victory.

Aylmer led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Spitfires' Adam Szwed's scored at 17:12 in the second period to put Aylmer up 6-2.

The Spitfires were sparked by Kyle Dedecker, who tallied one goal and one assist. Dedecker scored 4:39 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Aylmer. Ryan Stapleton provided the assist.

In the losing effort, Mt.Brydges was paced by Sean Candler, who registered two goals and one assist. Candler scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:22 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Aylmer. An interference penalty on Cameron Mancini had put the Bulldogs on the power play. Connor Lovie picked up the assist. Candler's next tally on the power play made the score 6-4 Aylmer with 13:53 left in the third period.

Aylmer made Bulldogs' goalies to work all game long, firing 34 shots and forcing 28 saves. Andrew Harrimand-Duke made 10 stops and Dane Gubbels made 18. The Spitfires' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Aylmer averages 3.7 goals per contest. The Spitfires got their opportunities on the power play, but did not convert any of their 11 chances. Aylmer could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 46 minutes in penalties during the game.

Aylmer additionally got points from Trevor Stewart, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Cody Underhill, who also had one goal and one assist, and Brad Payne, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Luke Bettencourt also scored for Aylmer. More assists for Aylmer came via Will Goodhue, who had one and Mark Macpherson, who had two.

Mt.Brydges stifled the Spitfires' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bulldogs' offense rang up 35 shots on Aylmer's net. Mt.Brydges' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Bulldogs finished with 56 penalty minutes.

Mt.Brydges also got points from Spencer Wilson, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Mike Frizzell, who also registered one goal and one assist. Mt.Brydges also got a goal from Connor Dunn as well. In addition, Mt.Brydges received assists from Tyler Lockwood and Trevor Smith, who each chipped in one.

Lucas Easterbrook made 31 saves for the Spitfires on 35 shots. Mt.Brydges registered three goals on 10 power play opportunities.
