Chalmers' hat trick boosts Paris over Burford, 7-4

Clayton Chalmers lifted the Paris Mounties to a 7-4 victory with a hat trick against the Burford Bulldogs.

Chalmers notched his first tally 7:11 into the first period. He then added goals at 12:31 into the first and at 9:53 into the third.

Burford's 10 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Bulldogs let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Paris made Bulldogs' goalies to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots and forcing 35 saves. Riley Edwards made 15 stops and Nick Trask made 20. The Mounties bested their season scoring average. This season, Paris averages 4.5 goals per contest.

Paris also got points from Richard Brooks, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Ian Fowler, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Paris also had goals scored by Graham Kitching and Tye Calder, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Paris were Jacob Norcott, who had two and Zack Skubnik, Brian Mueller, Brady Wheelans, Matthew Small, Zack Hedley, and Scott Sippel, who contributed one a piece.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Burford's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Bulldogs finished with 50 penalty minutes.

Burford was led by Tommy Smith, who registered one goal and one assist. Smith scored 5:28 into the third period to make the score 5-2 Paris. Others who scored for Burford included Peter Janeck, Nolan Ferris, and J.J. Harland, who scored one goal each. In addition, Burford received assists from Pat Bates, Tyler Vandenbussche, Adam Harris, and Andrew Schunk, who each chipped in one.

Conner Curtin made 15 saves before being replaced by Zach Schompe, who took the win and made 11 saves. The Mounties incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Bulldogs registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
