Simcoe vanquishes Port Dover in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Simcoe Storm defeated the Port Dover Sailors in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams.

Simcoe overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Storm fell behind 2-1 after a goal by Port Dover's Justin Bell at 19:59 in the second period. Simcoe tied things up at 2-2 on a short handed goal by Conner Robinson at 9:06 in the third period.

The Sailors were unable to stop the Storm from sending pucks towards the net, and Simcoe eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

The Storm were helped by Braden Roberts, who registered one goal. Roberts scored 18:50 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Joel Potruff provided the assist.

Port Dover forced Simcoe goalie Tim Porter to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Sailors were helped by Colin Streutker, who had one goal. Streutker scored on the power play 15:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Dover. Port Dover had gained a power play chance when Potruff was whistled for tripping. Matt Vansickle picked up the assist. More assists for Port Dover came via Michael Almas and Clayton Ethier, who contributed one a piece.

The Storm's Porter stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Simcoe incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Nathan McKinnon made 30 saves for the Sailors on 32 shots. Port Dover incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
