Ayr blows out Burford, 5-0

The Ayr Centennials had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-0 win over the Burford Bulldogs.

Ayr's penalty kill excelled, as the Centennials gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

Ayr was sparked by Adam Fisher, who tallied one goal. Fisher scored on the power play 6:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr. The Centennials had gotten the advantage when Burford's Blaise Burtnick was sent off for slashing. Connor Voigt provided the assist.

Ayr racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 13 minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 25.0 minutes per game the Centennials had been spending in the box. Ayr stifled the Bulldogs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Centennials' defense was surprisingly good. Ayr averages 2.5 goals allowed per game.

Ayr additionally got points from Andrew Richard, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Brendan Schaefer, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Ayr also had goals scored by Anthony Pullia and Mike McKnight, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Connor MacLean, who had two and Mac Kemp and Spencer Sweazy, who contributed one a piece.

Burford forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 14 minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. The Bulldogs surpassed its season average of 33.0 penalty minutes per game. Burford was held below its usual level of production. The Bulldogs average 3.1 goals per game.

Mitch Figueirdo made 20 saves for the Centennials on 20 shots. Ayr registered three goals on 13 power play opportunities. The Centennials ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jack Taylor was ejected from the game. Riley Edwards rejected 24 shots on goal for Burford. For the Bulldogs, Jesse Brooks was ejected from the game.
