Buffalo Jr. Sabres (MM) survived a determined comeback attempt by Dallas Stars (MM) on the way to a 3-1 win. Buffalo Jr. Sabres (MM) made the score 3-0 on a goal by Eric Szczecinski at 11:40 in the third period, and Dallas Stars (MM) got as close as 3-1 when Ryan James scored 17:13 into the third period. Buffalo Jr. Sabres (MM) was led by goalie Matthew Blattenberger, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. Blattenberger certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 4.08 entering the contest. Buffalo Jr. Sabres (MM)'s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Dallas Stars (MM) power plays. Buffalo Jr. Sabres (MM) forced Dallas Stars (MM) goalie Brock Thompson to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Buffalo Jr. Sabres (MM) was helped by Aaron Reinig, who had one goal. Reinig scored 11:50 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Buffalo Jr. Sabres (MM). Austin Bianchi provided the assist. Cameron Radziwon also scored for Buffalo Jr. Sabres (MM). In addition, Buffalo Jr. Sabres (MM) received assists from Randy DiNatale, who had two and Patrick Hunter, Brandon Hutchison, and Andrew Robinson, who contributed one a piece. Dallas Stars (MM) put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Buffalo Jr. Sabres (MM) to score on any of its nine power plays. Dallas Stars (MM) could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. Other players who recorded assists for Dallas Stars (MM) were Colin OBrien, who had one. Buffalo Jr. Sabres (MM) incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Dallas Stars (MM)'s Thompson stopped 33 shots out of the 36 that he faced.
