Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the LaSalle Vipers defeated the St. Thomas Stars in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.LaSalle overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Vipers fell behind 3-0 after a power play goal by St. Thomas' Alex Morgan at 8:24 in the second period. LaSalle tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Dylan Denomme at 12:48 in the third period. The Stars' power play was ineffective against the Vipers' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. LaSalle kept St. Thomas' goalie busy throughout the game, and Riley Brown made 53 saves on 57 shots. The Vipers were helped by Brendan McCann, who racked up one goal. McCann scored 18:40 into the second period to make the score 3-2 St. Thomas. Rio Anzolin picked up the assist. LaSalle additionally got points from Aaron Luchuk, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for LaSalle were Devon Paliani, who had one and Mark Manchurek, who had two. The Stars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. St. Thomas was helped by John Warren, who finished with one goal. Warren scored 9:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas. Blair Mincer provided the assist. St. Thomas also got points from Morgan, who also racked up one goal and one assist. St. Thomas also got a goal from Ryan Hamelin as well. More assists for St. Thomas came via Luc Knight, who had two and Cam Garrow and Carson Brookshaw, who contributed one a piece. Paolo Battisti made 25 saves for LaSalle on 28 shots. The Vipers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Stars incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
