Traverse City Hounds' Gillis deadly on offense in 8-0 win against Michigan Ice Dogs

Traverse City Hounds relied on the scoring touch of Jacob Gillis, who netted two goals, to beat Michigan Ice Dogs, 8-0.

Gillis scored at 5:14 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Traverse City Hounds and again while 2:46 into the third to make the score 2-0 Traverse City Hounds.

Traverse City Hounds was boosted by John Posler, who turned in a shutout with 25 saves. Posler managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.0 prior to the game.

Michigan Ice Dogs' seven penalties came back to haunt it, as Michigan Ice Dogs let up five goals while on the penalty kill.

Traverse City Hounds forced Michigan Ice Dogs' goaltenders to work all game long, taking 44 shots and forcing 36 saves. Anthony Veresan made 36 stops and Vincent Ryckman made zero. Traverse City Hounds excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Traverse City Hounds was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. Traverse City Hounds averages 2.1 goals allowed per game. Traverse City Hounds was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time.

Traverse City Hounds also got points from Austin Flores, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Patrick Rogowski, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Clayton Dowlan also scored for Traverse City Hounds. More assists for Traverse City Hounds came via Jordan Ruterbusch, who had three and Scott Luca, Cory Bussing, Cam Fisher, Josh Smith, and Kenneth Simmons Jr, who contributed one a piece.

Michigan Ice Dogs was held below its usual level of production. Michigan Ice Dogs averages 2.4 goals per game. Michigan Ice Dogs found itself short handed often, totaling 30 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

For Traverse City Hounds, Tyler Thirlby was ejected from the game. Michigan Ice Dogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cameron Kucharski was ejected from the game.
