Huge game by Murphy boosts Soo Firehawks over Michigan Ice Dogs, 9-5

Soo Firehawks' Nicholas Murphy had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 9-5 win over Michigan Ice Dogs.

Murphy found the back of the net 3:00 into the second period to make the score 5-0 Soo Firehawks and again while 10:47 into the third to make the score 9-5 Soo Firehawks.

Soo Firehawks' penalty kill excelled, as Soo Firehawks gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

Soo Firehawks forced Michigan Ice Dogs' goaltenders to work between the pipes, launching 73 shots and forcing 64 saves. Vincent Ryckman made 54 stops and Anthony Veresan made 10. Team could not crack Michigan Ice Dogs' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Soo Firehawks additionally got points from Matthew Majic, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Ryan Marshall, who also finished with two goals and one assist, and Calder Ashton, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Luke Wizauer also scored for Soo Firehawks. In addition, Soo Firehawks received assists from Cody Anderson, who had two, Andrew Holder, who had three, and Kevin Killips and Quinton Myotte, who contributed one a piece.

Michigan Ice Dogs' offense rang up 36 shots on Soo Firehawks' net. Michigan Ice Dogs' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Michigan Ice Dogs was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 38 penalty minutes.

Nicolas Berlingieri made 31 saves for Soo Firehawks on 36 shots. Soo Firehawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. For Michigan Ice Dogs, Veresan was ejected from the game.
