Huge game by Cimino boosts Waterloo over Guelph, 7-3

The Waterloo Siskins' Eric Cimino had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing three assists in his team's 7-3 win over the Guelph Hurricanes.

Cimino beat Stormer Santana with a shot 17:54 into the third period to make the score 7-4 Waterloo. Sam Natale APJ picked up the assist. Matt Nightingale dished an assist on Natale APJ's goal that made the score 1-0 Guelph at 6:41 into the first period.

In the losing effort, Guelph was paced by Nightingale, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Nightingale scored the first of his two goals at 1:52 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Waterloo. Natale APJ assisted on the tally. Nightingale's next tally made the score 7-5 Waterloo with 16 seconds left in the third period.

Waterloo excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Siskins surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Waterloo averages 3.6 goals per game. The Siskins got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Waterloo also got points from Danny Hanlon, who also had one goal and one assist. Waterloo also had goals scored by Matt Martin, Evan Kearns, Evan Buehler, Luke Gazzola, and Michael Mantenuto, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Matthew Mah, who had two, Christian Mroczkowski, who had three, and Troy Lajeunesse, Jarrett Parker, Joshua Defarias, and Ryan Taylor, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes kept Waterloo's goalie busy throughout the game, and Leo Lazarev made 30 saves on 33 shots.

Guelph additionally got points from Natale APJ, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Guelph included Chad Herron and Lucas Pozzobon(APM), who scored one goal each. More assists for Guelph came via Patrick Kudla, who had two and Corey Flemington (APM) and Jordan Hatzinger, who contributed one a piece.

The Siskins incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Guelph's Santana stopped 18 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Hurricanes incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
