OAKVILLE holds on for 3-1 win against BURLINGTON

OAKVILLE survived a determined comeback attempt by BURLINGTON on the way to a 3-1 win.

OAKVILLE took a 3-0 lead during the third period, only to have BURLINGTON storm back on a Logan Boyd goal 10:05 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

BURLINGTON was stymied by OAKVILLE netminder Daniela Paniccia, who stopped 25 shots during the victory. Paniccia certainly lowered her goals against average, which was 3.06 entering the contest.

OAKVILLE's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four BURLINGTON power plays. OAKVILLE's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as OAKVILLE finished with 26 penalty minutes.

OAKVILLE was helped by Olivia Atkinson, who grabbed one goal. Atkinson scored 11:19 into the second period to make the score 2-0 OAKVILLE. Lauren Patterson picked up the assist. OAKVILLE additionally got points from Christina Putigna, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jennifer MacAskill also scored for OAKVILLE. Other players who recorded assists for OAKVILLE were Julia Edgar (PU), Rebecca Daniel, and Jacinta Kennedy, who contributed one a piece.

BURLINGTON forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. BURLINGTON surpassed its season average of 13.0 penalty minutes per game.

In addition, BURLINGTON received assists from Shana Toale, who had one.

OAKVILLE registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Kyra OBrien rejected 24 shots on goal for BURLINGTON.
