KINGSTON survives AURORA comeback, wins 4-3Cataraqui Kinsmen Sun, Sep 29, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
AURORA tried to dig itself out of a four-goal hole, but KINGSTON held on for a 4-3 victory. A goal by Mariah McCue put KINGSTON up 4-0 in the third period, but AURORA pulled to within one on Brittany Kucera (C)'s tally 8:50 into the third period. KINGSTON pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes. KINGSTON's offense rang up 31 shots on AURORA's net. KINGSTON was led by Brianna Gaffney, who registered one goal and one assist. Gaffney scored seven seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 KINGSTON. Shelby Perry (A) picked up the assist. KINGSTON also got points from Perry (A), who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. KINGSTON also got a goal from Jaclyn Bastedo as well. Other players who recorded assists for KINGSTON were Laura Turcotte and Brenna Murphy, who contributed one a piece. AURORA put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow KINGSTON to score on any of its five power plays. AURORA forced KINGSTON goalie Elizabeth Spinozzi to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. AURORA was led by Maresa Benacquista, who had one goal and one assist. Benacquista scored 3:10 into the third period to make the score 4-2 KINGSTON. Steffei Samuel also scored for AURORA. In addition, AURORA received assists from Christine McCarthy, who had one. Elizabeth Spinozzi made 29 saves for KINGSTON on 32 shots. Nicholle Kovach recorded 27 saves for AURORA. AURORA incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
