Pensacola boosted by MacKinnon's play in net, beats Bloomington 2-1

Bloomington    Fri, Mar 21, 2014

The Pensacola Ice Flyers relied on the sparkling performance of Ross MacKinnon in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Bloomington Thunder.

Pensacola was sparked by Ryan Salvis, who tallied one goal. Salvis scored 17:44 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Pensacola. Adam Pawlick assisted on the tally.

The Ice Flyers stifled Bloomington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 51 shots on goal, Pensacola exceeded the 28.5 shots it averages per game this year.

Pensacola also got points from Pawlick, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were John Dunbar, who had one.

The Thunder put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Ice Flyers to score on any of their three power plays. Bloomington's offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 17.5 shots per game it averages.

The Thunder were led by Curtis Megginson, who scored the team's only goal. Megginson scored 2:05 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Bloomington. Mike Henderson provided the assist.
