Pawlick lifts Pensacola over Columbus, 5-0

The Pensacola Ice Flyers relied on the scoring touch of Adam Pawlick, who netted two goals, to beat the Columbus Cottonmouths, 5-0.

Pawlick's tallies came at 10:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola and 14:39 into the first to make the score 2-0 Pensacola.

Pensacola was boosted by Ross MacKinnon, who turned in a shutout with 25 saves. The solid play of MacKinnon will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.15.

The Ice Flyers were often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. Pensacola surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Ice Flyers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Columbus power plays. Pensacola featured an improved defense during the game. The Ice Flyers gives up 2.6 goals on average per game. Pensacola put 32 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.4 it averages per game.

Pensacola additionally got points from John Dunbar, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Pensacola included Joshua Turnbull and Steve Whitely, who each put in one. More assists for Pensacola came via Mitchell Good and Jeremy Gates, who contributed one each and Joe Caveney, Ryan Salvis, and Corey Banfield, who each chipped in two.

Columbus excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Cottonmouths could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Columbus puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game.

The Cottonmouths were led by Levi Lind, who took four shots.

Andrew Loewen rejected 27 shots on goal for Columbus. The Cottonmouths ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major.
