Mississippi RiverKings uses fast start to beat Fayetteville, 8-3

Mississippi RiverKings jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Fayetteville FireAntz, 8-3.

Matt Harrington had one goal and two assists to lead Mississippi RiverKings. Harrington scored 12:45 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mississippi RiverKings. Devin Mantha assisted on the tally.

Mississippi RiverKings was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game Mississippi RiverKings had been spending in the box. Mississippi RiverKings stifled Fayetteville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mississippi RiverKings found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Mississippi RiverKings has scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign. Mississippi RiverKings put 41 shots on net during the contest, more than the 29.5 it averages per game.

Mississippi RiverKings additionally got points from Mantha, who also racked up three goals and one assist to lead the team in points, Todd Hosmer, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Burke Gallimore, who also had one goal and two assists. Mississippi RiverKings also had goals scored by Leo Thomas and Tyler Sheldrake, who scored one goal each. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Matt Whitehead and Paul Clancy, who contributed one each and Ryan Marcuz, Mike Grace, Andrew Randazzo, and Sean Jones, who each chipped in two.

The FireAntz put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mississippi RiverKings to score on any of its three power plays. Fayetteville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Nick Craven, Kyle McNeil and Zach Carriveau took 20 of the team's 36 shots.

In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Corey Toy, Kevin Kessler, and Michael Zannella, who contributed one each.

Matthew Krahn rejected 33 shots on goal for Mississippi RiverKings. Peter Skoggard took the loss and made 25 saves before being replaced by Dustin Carlson who made eight saves. The FireAntz totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 0-for-4 on the power play.
