Loewen leads Columbus to shutout victory over Bloomington

Andrew Loewen was superb between the pipes for the Columbus Cottonmouths, as he did not allow a goal in a 4-0 victory over the Bloomington Thunder.

Columbus was led by Neilsson Arcibal, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Arcibal scored 2:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus.

The Cottonmouths were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game Columbus had been spending in the box. The Cottonmouths stifled Bloomington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Columbus' defensive play was more effective than usual against the Thunder. The Cottonmouths average 3.0 goals allowed per game. By firing 31 shots on goal, Columbus exceeded the 27.6 shots it averages per game this year.

Others who scored for Columbus included Tom Maldonado, Preston Shupe, and Dan Bremner, who scored one goal each. In addition, Columbus received assists from Will Aide, who had two and Steve Mele, Sam Bowles, and Seth Ronsberg, who contributed one a piece.

Bloomington racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Thunder surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. Bloomington could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Thunder average 2.3 goals per game. Bloomington put 27 shots on net during the contest, more than the 19.2 it averages per game.

The Thunder were led by Mike Henderson, who took seven shots.

Andrew Loewen made 27 saves for the Cottonmouths on 27 shots. Columbus registered one goal on six power play opportunities. The Cottonmouths ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alex Gallant was ejected from the game. BJ OBrien recorded 27 saves for Bloomington. The Thunder registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. For Bloomington, Harry Mahesh was ejected from the game.
