xPensacola's Dunbar deadly on offense in 5-1 win against Mississippi Surge

Behind a great game by John Dunbar, who had two goals, the xPensacola Ice Flyers defeated Mississippi Surge, 5-1.

Dunbar found the back of the net 2:25 into the second period to make the score 2-1 xPensacola and again while on the power play 8:34 into the second to make the score 3-1 xPensacola.

Both goalies were tossed from the game during the major incident in the third period.

xPensacola forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the Ice Flyers had been spending in the box. xPensacola put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mississippi Surge to score on any of its four power plays. The 46 shots that the Ice Flyers put on net surpassed xPensacola's average of 29.6 shots per game this season.

xPensacola additionally got points from Joshua Turnbull, who also registered one goal and one assist and Corey Banfield, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Roman Andrejev also scored for xPensacola. In addition, xPensacola received assists from Malcolm Lyles, Keegan Flaherty, and Ryan Salvis, who contributed one a piece and Brett Lutes and Joe Caveney, who each chipped in two.

Mississippi Surge racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Mississippi Surge surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Mississippi Surge put 24 shots on net during the contest, more than the 17.6 it averages per game.

Mississippi Surge was led by Kyle Kudroch, who scored the team's only goal. Kudroch scored 4:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi Surge. Andrew Harrison picked up the assist.

Peter Di Salvo made 19 saves for the Ice Flyers on 20 shots. xPensacola registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Ice Flyers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Peter Di Salvo was ejected from the game. Dan Clarke rejected 36 shots on goal for Mississippi Surge. For Mississippi Surge, Clarke was ejected from the game.
