Peoria boosted by Rank's play in net, beats Louisiana 2-1Peoria Civic Center Fri, Feb 28, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
A stellar performance between the pipes by Kyle Rank helped the Peoria Rivermen defeat the Louisiana IceGators, 2-1. Peoria was paced by Garrett Vermeersch, who tallied one goal. Vermeersch scored on the power play 8:09 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Peoria. A goalie interference penalty on Aaron McGill had put the Rivermen on the power play. Parker Stanfield assisted on the tally. By firing 36 shots on goal, Peoria exceeded the 24.5 shots it averages per game this year. Dean Yakura also scored for Peoria. In addition, Peoria received assists from Steve Morra, who had one and Joe Schiller, who had two. Louisiana was held below its usual level of production. The IceGators average 3.4 goals per game. The 44 shots that Louisiana put on net surpassed the IceGators' average of 29.2 shots per game this season. Louisiana was led by Jordan Braid, who scored the team's only goal. Braid scored 6:12 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Chris Wilson picked up the assist. Kyle Rank made 43 saves for the Rivermen on 44 shots. Peoria incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The IceGators' Kiefer Smiley stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Louisiana incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
