Fayetteville squeaks by Huntsville, 4-2Breland Homes Ice Thu, Feb 20, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fayetteville FireAntz gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Huntsville Havoc. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Derek Elliott at 7:43 of the second period. Fayetteville was led by Elliott, who finished with one goal and one assist. The FireAntz put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Huntsville to score on any of its five power plays. Fayetteville put 32 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.6 it averages per game. Fayetteville additionally got points from Bobby Reed, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Fayetteville included Tommy Lange and Kyle McNeil, who scored one goal each. More assists for Fayetteville came via Zach Carriveau, who had two and Corey Toy, John Clewlow, Corey Tamblyn, and Matt Ridley, who contributed one a piece. The Havoc managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Huntsville ended up below its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The 35 shots that the Havoc put on net surpassed Huntsville's average of 23.7 shots per game this season. The Havoc were helped by Ben Schoeneberger, who racked up one goal. Schoeneberger scored 12:04 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Branden Parkhouse assisted on the tally. Huntsville also got a goal from Ray Ortiz as well. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Justin Cseter, who had one. Peter Skoggard rejected 33 shots on goal for the FireAntz. Fayetteville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Huntsville's Jesse Kallechy stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced.
