Columbus rides Loewen to victory over Knoxville, 4-1

Andrew Loewen had a standout game with 26 saves, and the Columbus Cottonmouths beat the Knoxville Ice Bears 4-1.

Knoxville's power play was ineffective against Columbus' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Cottonmouths were led by Jordan Draper, who tallied one goal. Draper scored on the power play 4:50 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Columbus. Columbus had taken the advantage when the Ice Bears' Jeremy Klaver got sent off for tripping. Sam Bowles provided the assist.

The Cottonmouths' offense was clicking better than usual and put 37 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.4 shots per game they average.

Columbus also got points from Neilsson Arcibal, who also had two goals and one assist and Preston Shupe, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Matt Gingera also scored for Columbus. More assists for Columbus came via Tory Allan, who had two.

Knoxville was led by Berkley Scott, who scored the team's only goal. Scott scored on the power play 4:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Knoxville. The Ice Bears had gained a power play chance when Will Aide was whistled for charging. Mark Van Vliet picked up the assist.

Columbus totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Bryan Hince made 33 saves for Knoxville on 37 shots. The Ice Bears ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
