Fayetteville completes comeback, beats Knoxville, 5-4Crown Coliseum Tue, Mar 18, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Knoxville Ice Bears could not hold down the Fayetteville FireAntz, and FireAntz erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 5-4 win. Fayetteville let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The FireAntz took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Corey Tamblyn at 26 seconds in the first period. Fayetteville found itself down 4-2 after Knoxville's Tyler Klein put the puck home at 15:19 in the second period. After knotting things up at 4-4 on a goal by Corey Toy at 10:14 in the third, the FireAntz got the game-winner from Bobby Reed at 18:24 in the third period. Fayetteville stifled the Ice Bears' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The FireAntz average 20.9 shots on goal per game, but only sent 16 pucks on net against Knoxville. Fayetteville found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The FireAntz average 2.6 goals per game. Fayetteville additionally got points from Toy, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Nick Craven, who also registered one goal and one assist. Fayetteville also got a goal from Michael Zannella as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Derek Elliott, who had two and Kyle McNeil, Zach Carriveau, and Yuri Cheremetiev, who contributed one each. The Ice Bears put 38 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.4 they average per game. Knoxville was led by Vince Perreault, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Perreault scored 14:16 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Knoxville. Peter Neal provided the assist. Knoxville also got points from Neal, who also had one goal and one assist. Ben Souders also scored for Knoxville. More assists for Knoxville came via Mark Van Vliet, who had three and Andrew Dovey and Francis Drolet, who each chipped in one. Peter Skoggard rejected 34 shots on goal for Fayetteville. The FireAntz incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Cody Rosen recorded 11 saves for the Ice Bears. Knoxville incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
