Mississippi RiverKings boosted by Krahn's play in net, beats Fayetteville 4-1Crown Coliseum Fri, Feb 07, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
A stellar performance between the pipes by Matthew Krahn helped Mississippi RiverKings defeat the Fayetteville FireAntz, 4-1. Matt Harrington had a great game for Mississippi RiverKings, netting two goals. Harrington's tallies came at 12:47 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mississippi RiverKings and 19:51 into the third to make the score 4-1 Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Fayetteville to score on any of its four power plays. Mississippi RiverKings relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Devin Mantha, Andrew Randazzo and Harrington took 18 of the team's 31 shots. Mississippi RiverKings additionally got points from Mike Hayward, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Matt Whitehead, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Mississippi RiverKings received assists from Ryan Hill and Patrick Schafer, who each chipped in one. Penalties took their toll on the FireAntz, as their penalty kill unit let in three power play goals. Fayetteville's offense was clicking better than usual and put 31 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.1 shots per game it averages. The FireAntz were led by John Clewlow, who scored the team's only goal. Clewlow scored 11:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fayetteville. Kevin Kessler assisted on the tally. Krahn recorded 30 saves for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Fayetteville's Dustin Carlson stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The FireAntz ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
