Pawlick's hat trick boosts Pensacola over Bloomington, 8-3

The Bloomington Thunder could not stop the Pensacola Ice Flyers' Adam Pawlick, who tallied a hat trick in an 8-3 win.

Pawlick got on the scoresheet 1:19 into the second period. He then added goals at 15:00 into the second and at 15:36 into the third.

Bloomington's 14 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Thunder let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

The Pensacola penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and four majors for 50 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game the Ice Flyers had been spending in the box. Pensacola found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Ice Flyers average 3.5 goals per contest. By firing 37 shots on goal, Pensacola exceeded the 27.9 shots it averages per game this year.

Pensacola additionally got points from Roman Andrejev, who also registered one goal and two assists and Joe Caveney, who also had one goal and one assist. Pensacola also had goals scored by Malcolm Lyles, Keegan Flaherty, and Joshua Turnbull, who scored one goal each. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Ross MacKinnon, Bennett Schneider, Ryan Salvis, and Joe Bueltel, who contributed one a piece and Steve Bergin, Corey Banfield, and John Dunbar, who each chipped in two.

Bloomington racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and four majors for 70 minutes in penalty time. The Thunder had been averaging 27.0 minutes in penalties per game. Bloomington relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Reid MacLeod, Nic Polaski and Jay Pietrasiak took 17 of the team's 31 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Thunder were helped by Curtis Megginson, who grabbed one goal. Megginson scored on the power play 16:02 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A holding penalty on Turnbull had put Bloomington on the power play. Polaski picked up the assist. Bloomington also got points from Polaski, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Bloomington also got a goal from Paul DAgostino as well. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington were Travis Granbois and Branden Parkhouse, who contributed one a piece.

The Ice Flyers' MacKinnon stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Max Strang made 29 saves for the Thunder on 37 shots. Bloomington registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For the Thunder, Dennis Sicard was ejected from the game.
