Bloomington penalty kill dominates in 2-1 defeat of Peoria

The Bloomington Thunder, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Peoria Rivermen's power play opportunities and emerged with a 2-1 victory.

Bloomington was paced by Kyle Watson, who registered one goal. Watson scored on the power play 5:25 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Bloomington. The Thunder earned a power play opportunity when Cole Ruwe was put in the box for elbowing. Tyler Noseworthy picked up the assist.

The 28 shots that Bloomington put on net surpassed the Thunder's average of 23.4 shots per game this season. Bloomington found itself short handed often, totaling 38 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

Bloomington also got points from Noseworthy, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington were Curtis Megginson, Travis Granbois, and Jay Pietrasiak, who each chipped in one.

Peoria was led by Nick Prockow, who scored the team's only goal. Prockow scored on the power play 4:24 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Rivermen had gained a power play chance when Eddie Olyzck was whistled for high sticking. Joe Schiller provided the assist.

BJ OBrien recorded 23 saves for the Thunder. Bloomington registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Peoria's Kyle Rank stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Rivermen incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
