Pensacola wins tough contest against Fayetteville, 5-3

The Pensacola Ice Flyers and the Fayetteville FireAntz were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Pensacola made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Shaun Arvai secured the win for the Ice Flyers with a goal in the second period.

Pensacola got the win thanks to a great game by Brett Lutes, who had two goals and one assist. Lutes scored the first of his two goals at 9:14 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. John Dunbar provided the assist. Lutes' next tally made the score 4-2 Pensacola with 11 seconds left in the second period. Dunbar picked up the assist.

The Ice Flyers' offense was clicking better than usual and put 27 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.0 shots per game they average.

Pensacola also got points from Corey Banfield, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Dunbar, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Ryan Salvis, who had two and Justin Alonzo, Joshua Turnbull, Adam Pawlick, and Steve Bergin, who contributed one a piece.

Fayetteville was led by Derek Elliott, who had two goals. Elliott scored the first of his two goals at 1:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fayetteville. John Clewlow assisted on the tally. Elliott's next tally made the score 2-0 Fayetteville with 17:42 left in the first period. Bobby Reed provided the assist. Kyle McNeil also scored for Fayetteville. More assists for Fayetteville came via Nick Craven, Matt Smyth, and Chris Greene, who each chipped in one.

Pensacola's John Griggs stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Ice Flyers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Peter Skoggard recorded 22 saves for the FireAntz. Fayetteville incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
