Hosmer nets hat trick, leads Mississippi RiverKings to 6-4 win over Fayetteville

Todd Hosmer lifted Mississippi RiverKings to a 6-4 victory with a hat trick against the Fayetteville FireAntz.

Hosmer's first goal came 18:22 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:22 into the third and at 18:38 into the third.

Mississippi RiverKings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Fayetteville to score on any of its four power plays. Mississippi RiverKings bested its season scoring average. This season, Mississippi RiverKings averages 3.2 goals per contest. Mississippi RiverKings relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Hosmer, Matt Harrington and Devin Mantha took 13 of the team's 21 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Mississippi RiverKings additionally got points from Leo Thomas, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Tyler Sheldrake, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Mississippi RiverKings also got a goal from Andrew Randazzo as well. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Matt Whitehead, who had three and Lucas LaBelle and Tom Craig, who contributed one a piece.

The defensemen of the FireAntz were also effective in Mississippi RiverKings' zone, and came away with two goals. Fayetteville put 48 shots on net during the contest, more than the 29.0 it averages per game.

The FireAntz were helped by Brandon Greenside, who registered one goal. Greenside scored 4:06 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Mississippi RiverKings. Corey Tamblyn assisted on the tally. Fayetteville also got points from Mike Kavanagh, who also had one goal and one assist and Tamblyn, who also racked up one goal and one assist. John Clewlow also scored for Fayetteville. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Kyle McNeil, who had two and Derek Elliott, Brandon Richardson, and Evan Chlanda, who each chipped in one.

Dan McWhinney recorded 44 saves for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Fayetteville's Brad Fogal stopped 15 shots out of the 20 that he faced. The FireAntz incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
