Knoxville holds on for 2-1 win against Pensacola

The Pensacola Ice Flyers tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Knoxville Ice Bears would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 2-1.

Knoxville took a 2-0 lead during the third period, only to have Pensacola storm back on a Malcolm Lyles goal 15:45 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Ice Bears' Bryan Hince was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 30 saves and let only one puck past him. Hince certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.6 entering the contest.

Knoxville was led by Ben Souders, who registered one goal. Souders scored 53 seconds into the third period to make the score Knoxville. Eric Satim assisted on the tally.

The Ice Bears put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Ice Flyers to score on any of their four power plays. Knoxville put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.0 it averages per game.

Knoxville also got a goal from Francis Drolet as well. More assists for Knoxville came via Brady Vandenberk, Jeremy Klaver, and Jason Price, who each chipped in one.

Pensacola's offense operated below it season average. The Ice Flyers put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. The Ice Bears were unable to stop Pensacola from sending pucks towards the net, and the Ice Flyers eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Brett Lutes and John Dunbar, who contributed one a piece.

Knoxville totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. John Griggs rejected 28 shots on goal for Pensacola. The Ice Flyers ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
