Columbus beats Bloomington 4-0 as Loewen gains shutout

Andrew Loewen made 30 saves to complete the shutout and led the Columbus Cottonmouths to a 4-0 win against the Bloomington Thunder.

Columbus was paced by Tory Allan, who finished with one goal. Allan scored short handed 8:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. The Cottonmouths played down a man on Sam Bowles's high sticking.

Columbus stifled Bloomington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cottonmouths put 32 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.6 they average per game.

Columbus also got points from Jason Gray, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Columbus included Neilsson Arcibal and Levi Lind, who scored one goal each. More assists for Columbus came via Will Aide, who had one and Jordan Draper, who had three.

The Thunder's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Columbus power plays. Bloomington's offense operated below it season average. The Thunder average 2.6 goals per game. By firing 30 shots on goal, Bloomington exceeded the 19.2 shots it averages per game this year.

The Thunder were led by Kyle Watson, who took five shots.

Columbus ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Max Strang recorded 28 saves for Bloomington. The Thunder totaled 27 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play.
