Huntsville squeaks by Louisiana, 6-4Cajundome Fri, Jan 03, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Huntsville Havoc escaped with a 6-4 victory over the Louisiana IceGators. Huntsville gained the winning advantage on a goal by Nick Lazorko 15:35 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Lazorko had two goals to lead the Havoc to victory. Huntsville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Havoc outdid their season average for goals scored. Huntsville has scored at the pace of 3.7 goals per game during the current campaign. The Havoc relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Lazorko, Mike Gurtler and Josh Harris took 15 of the team's 29 shots. Huntsville also got points from Ray Ortiz, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Paul Kurceba, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Huntsville also had goals scored by Stuart Stefan and Dominic Osman, who each put in one. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Leland Fidler, Justin Fox, and Matt Singleton, who each chipped in one. Louisiana racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The IceGators surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. Louisiana put 32 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.6 it averages per game. The IceGators were led by Shawn McNeil, who registered two goals and one assist. McNeil scored the first of his two goals at 14:13 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Louisiana. Jason Cohen provided the assist. McNeil's next tally made the score 4-3 Louisiana with 9:01 left in the third period. Matthew Robertson picked up the assist. Others who scored for Louisiana included Bret Peppler and Adam Stuart, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Tyler Barr, who had one. Jesse Kallechy made 28 saves for Huntsville on 32 shots. The Havoc totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. Matt Zenzola recorded 23 saves for Louisiana.
