Bloomington beats Peoria 2-0 as Strang gains shutoutBloomington Tue, Dec 31, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Max Strang was superb between the pipes for the Bloomington Thunder, as he did not allow a goal in a 2-0 victory over the Peoria Rivermen. Bloomington pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes. The Thunder were paced by Zach Pearson, who had one goal. Pearson scored on the power play 19:42 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Bloomington. Bloomington had gained a power play chance when Nick Prockow was whistled for illegal check to the head. Peter Cintala assisted on the tally. The Thunder put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Peoria to score on any of its seven power plays. Bloomington's offense was clicking better than usual and put 30 shots on goal during the game, better than the 20.2 shots per game it averages. Bloomington also got a goal from Kyle Watson as well. More assists for Bloomington came via Ron Cramer and Branden Parkhouse, who each chipped in one. The Rivermen were held below their usual level of production. Peoria averages 3.0 goals per game. With 27 shots on target during the contest, the Rivermen exceeded the 20.7 shots they average per game this year. Peoria was led by Justin Gvora, who took four shots. The Thunder's Strang stopped 27 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Bloomington registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Eric Levine rejected 28 shots on goal for the Rivermen. Peoria incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
