Huge game by Watson boosts Bloomington over Fayetteville, 5-2

The Bloomington Thunder's Kyle Watson had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing three assists in his team's 5-2 win over the Fayetteville FireAntz.

Watson beat Brad Fogal with a shot 4:50 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Bloomington. Ron Cramer provided the assist. Watson dished an assist on Dennis Sicard's goal that made the score 2-0 Bloomington at 14:44 into the first period. He then added assists on Sicard's goal at 15:54 into the first and on Sicard's goal at 17:47 into the third.

Bloomington's penalty kill excelled, as the Thunder gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Bloomington stifled Fayetteville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 24 shots on goal, the Thunder exceeded the 19.3 shots they average per game this year. Bloomington's goal total was higher than its season average. The Thunder have scored at the pace of 2.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

Bloomington also got points from Cramer, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington were Travis Granbois, who had one and Curtis Megginson, who had two.

The FireAntz excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. With 39 shots on target during the contest, Fayetteville exceeded the 26.1 shots it averages per game this year.

The FireAntz were helped by Chris Greene, who grabbed one goal. Greene scored 17:19 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Bloomington. Brett Liscomb assisted on the tally. Nick Craven also scored for Fayetteville. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Derek Elliott and Jeff Martens, who each chipped in one.

Max Strang made 37 saves for Bloomington on 39 shots. The Thunder incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Fogal rejected 19 shots on goal for Fayetteville. The FireAntz incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
