Huge game by Lind boosts Columbus over Peoria, 5-1

Travis Bosch had a standout game with 28 saves, and the Columbus Cottonmouths beat the Peoria Rivermen 5-1.

Levi Lind was all over the ice for Columbus, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Lind scored 7:56 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Columbus. Will Aide provided the assist.

Peoria's power play was ineffective against the Cottonmouths' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Columbus forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and two majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. The Cottonmouths surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. Columbus excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Cottonmouths' offense was clicking better than usual and put 43 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.7 shots per game they average.

Columbus additionally got points from Matt Gingera, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Neilsson Arcibal also scored for Columbus. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Steve Mele, who had two and Tom Maldonado and Chris Bailer, who each chipped in one.

The the Rivermen penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and three majors for 39 minutes in penalty time. Peoria had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Rivermen did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Peoria averages 3.1 goals per game.

The Rivermen were led by Tyler Amburgey, who scored the team's only goal. Amburgey scored 14:33 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Corey Tamblyn picked up the assist.

Columbus registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For the Cottonmouths, Bailer was ejected from the game. Peoria's Kyle Rank stopped 38 shots out of the 43 that he faced. The Rivermen ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Justin Gvora was ejected from the game.
